Southern-Style Hoppin’ John Rice Bowl
Tradition meets convenience in this modern twist on a Southern classic. Historically known as Hoppin’, this dish is famous for bringing good luck and prosperity. We’ve reimagined it into a vibrant, nutrient-dense Southern-Style Hoppin’ John Rice Bowl that takes less than 15 minutes to prepare.
The secret? Using Eat Regal Long Grain White Rice. While traditional long-grain rice requires washing, soaking, and 20 minutes of steaming, our pre-cooked pouches deliver perfectly fluffy, individual grains in just 90 seconds.
Ingredients
- 2 pouches Eat Regal Long Grain White Rice
- 1 can (15 oz) Black-eyed peas, rinsed or drained
- 1 medium Green bell pepper, diced
- 1 small Yellow onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves Garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup Celery, sliced
- 1 tsp Smoked paprika or Cajun seasoning
- Garnish: Fresh parsley and a dash of hot sauce.
Instructions
1. Sauté the Aromatics
In a large skillet, heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion, celery, and green bell pepper, and sauté for about 5 minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp. During the last minute, stir in the minced garlic and smoked paprika to release their flavors.
2. Prepare the Eat Regal Rice
Gently squeeze the Eat Regal White Rice pouch to separate the grains. Tear the vent at the top and microwave for 90 seconds.
3. Combine and Heat
Add the drained black-eyed peas and the heated rice directly into the skillet with the vegetables. Toss gently to combine and cook for another 2 minutes until everything is steaming hot and the flavors have melded.
4. Serve and Enjoy
Scoop the mixture into bowls. Garnish with fresh parsley and a squeeze of lemon or a dash of hot sauce for an extra kick.
